  • TDI Shift Points Recommendations (MK5 - PD)

I've come from a 2.0T to this motor and love it.. I've found through perusing the forums about certain recomendations for shift points for certain gears etc. Caution to surging the enging etc.. Just looking for a clearer picture on this topic as I don't want to f-up my turbo etc etc... I know theres a bunch of you SMRT folks here that may have some tips?

    Cheers.

I usually shift at around 2k. It depends on so many things though so it is more of a feel thing. You are not going to mess up your turbo not shifting at the right point.
As a side point the TDI's are variable geometry turbo's (VNT), there shouldn't be any surging as they only create as much boost as needed and not a set amount.

Ditto, just shift at what feels right to you.

I wouldn't shift any lower than 2000 rpm, and to keep the vanes exercised, shift at 4000rpm a few times a week.

Cool thanks guys. Seems to like to shift in the ranges above... I often find my self cruising at 1500-1800rpm in town. No issues with taking it to 4 K however.. ;-)

Getting my Malone stg 2 w/ Dyn EGR next week! Pretty stoked!
