  • Someone to lend a hand removing stuck oil filter Mk4

Hello I have a stuck oil filter on my 2004 jetta 1.8t and I can't remove it, I have tried an oil filter wrench and there isn't enough room for it so I went and bought the socket that fits on the end and it snapped and cracked. I'm just wondering if anyone has a better tool they could lend me or even lend me a hand in loosing it.
    Ill appreciate any help thanks
    I'm free tonight till 9

Take a screwdriver and pound it through the filter.

Might want to invest in a smaller oil filter wrench. I use this one, bought it at Walmart in the US for $2.50 and it works awesome. Fits a 1.8T filter perfectly with plenty of room to move the handle around. It's made by Fram.

The screwdriver trick also works but can be a bit messy.

Don't put the next one on too tight, you'll be reliving this last experience.

Here's a tip to remove really tight filters, clean the filter, then wear pair of rubber gloves that you wash the dishes with, grab tight and twist.

Part number MN7614. It works great. I borrowed it from Stefan a couple years back when mine was stuck, it worked a treat.
I bought my own and its a really useful tool to have.

This did work great but be careful because there are pins on the top that connect the filter socket to the socket wrench adapter and when I give it to much torque with your hands to loosen it they will snap and be left with a piece of metal like me lol

If you are snapping off sockets with the shear torque of your bare hands, I'm not sure we can help!

the rubber dish glove .........Again this is great tip ..!!!!!.. also use the smaller filter(06A115561B) the added .2L is not needed in your non racecar situation .Not so tight also because you will disturb the oil cooler seal when removing with such force (this problem will surface in -20 when all your oil is on the ground)
