  • Cost to Replace Key at Dealership

Looking at a Passat wagon 4Motion a co-worker is looking to sell but he can't find the key for it. He can't get into the car to even tell me how many km are on it and he thinks it needs a new battery.
Has anyone gotten a dealership to cut and program a new key from the dealership?
If so what was the cost exclusive of a tow?
Or is there a better option?
He thinks he can get a locksmith to come to the car and take care of it but I am not 100% sure that would be cheaper unless you factor in the tow.
    Advice?

I think the keys of that type run around $250-$500 but that's with an original. without the original I think you may need to change all the lock cylinders?

You can order a key by the VIN, you need proof of ownership.

Can do all the programming at Calgary Autoworks.

Good to know, didn't know the VIN could be used to cut new key.

Well the owner is in California right now so it's wait and see time.
