    Re: My Ginster Mk3 Build

No Derek those are from the ACR SRT. But I also have seen a black MK3 with RX 16s.

Classic look though on a MK3.

      Re: My Ginster Mk3 Build

Wow, lots of responses. Thanks for the encouragement and motivation guys! Trust me, I know what this car is gonna look like already, its all in my head. The all yellow look just isnt for me.
Been browsing CVD, DD and VwVortex for about half my life now, pretty much ever since my brother bought this car. Ive always been thinking "if i had a MK3 what would i do with it.." Lots of parts have been whored up this winter, just waiting for paint before i reveal what ive got in store for it... ill give you a hint though, it rhymes with euro

As for the "build" part, i consider a complete cosmetic overhaul a build, plus, hoping to redo all the bushings in poly/new rubber, maybe a 2.9 manifold or VSR (if i can afford it) in the near future. Cam and chip hopefully the next summer... But one step at a time, right? ive already got a strong engine with 170xxx original Kms, gotta find time to do those chains before the 180k mark. Just want to focus on making her look real pretty for the now.

Intocco, i may actually end up picking those wheels off of you later... ive already got new wheels to change it up from the Monicas, i kinda like the 17'' set up.

Sadly, this car is kinda in limbo untill i get the paint organized. :(

        Re: My Ginster Mk3 Build

So, since paintwork is still being organized...
i decided to do some interior work. i got a mk4 3 spoke wheel, did the proper modifications to make it fit a mk3 clockspring and rewrapped it.

After hours of hand stitching the leather was on, but kinda loose

After another hour or two of shrinking the leather it was much better

Got bored today and also rewrapped my DE knob

Thats it for now, but does anybody know how do find out if my cars cammed or not? besides taking off the valve cover.

Nice leather work there, looks tedious. Even taking the valve cover off might not tell you much, usually cams aren't blatantly stamped (atleast the ones i have installed).

          How does it idle?

it idles smooth, 1200 at cold, 800ish when it warms up.

Awesome awesome awesome!!! So nice to see a car get saved. Ginster is the best colour for a mk3 too in my opinion!! Can't wait to see it finished! Welcome! Ps: if you and jerry (assuming he is involved) need some answers or help in the paint/body work area feel free to PM me!

Well, i was plannning to prep the car for paint over spring break but the weather **** on me... so looks like paint is being delayed till later..
On the bright side, i took off the spoiler and plugged the holes.. sadly there was a little more damage than i had hoped for.

                    Re: My Ginster Mk3 Build

Car is still waiting for paint and i haven't really had time or motivation to do anything.. on the bright side though, these should be on their way from Europe very shortly

I guess now is the time to reveal my exterior plans for the car.
Im am going for the euro 20thAE GTI trims on my Drivers Edition GTI mixed together with a bit of my own styling. Flares and little things are already sitting in my room.

AS far as i know, this will be the first Ginster yellow to take on this style with the red pin stripping and stuff.
cant wait till it stops snowing...

                      Awesome. Just awesome.

I too fell in love with VW in my teens. Wasn't until my mid 20's that I finally got one.

Good on ya for for this build.

As to your Question on cams....

if you have something like this I would say most likely YES to cams but
if you have a smooth idle and can not feel a difference through out the rpm range I'd say no
I have this Schrick Intake, big valve head and 268 cams and at idle it.... oh wait what idle.....

oh nice work on the leather work...looks good

No Jerry, my car doesnt have jaundice :P

Not a big update but got my headlights on today.. fitment is iffy, probably gonna get a new rad support. But they definitely sit much more flush than those powerlooks.

Put on all red tails. Not 100% sure about these.. Jerry and my neighbour like them, but not sure if im feeling it.

Also painted a set of badges to match the colour of my new wheels! Diggin how these turned out.
