  • MINI 5 Door Hatch

MINI has officially revealed its first ever five-door hatchback which is set to go on sale this fall.

The second member to join the all-new MINI lineup is a more practical five-door body style which compared to the regular model has a 72mm elongated wheelbase (at 2567mm). This stretch has increased rear legroom and foot space by 72mm while headroom has increased by 15mm.
There's not a lot to talk about in terms of design as the hatch looks a lot like the regular version which was probably MINI's main objective as they wanted to maintain the look of the original model. However, it could be a bit difficult to enter the back seats due to what appears to be a short length of the rear doors.

The longer MINI provides 61mm additional interior width at elbow height while the trunk capacity now stands at 278 liters, making it 67 liters more spacious than in the three-door variant. Once you fold down the 60:40 split rear backrest, total cargo volume jumps to 941 liters. These increases also have to do with a 161mm extended overall length to 4005mm and an 11mm height increase to 1425mm.

The engine lineup is borrowed from its three-door cousin so the MINI five-door hatchback will be available with the following motors:

3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo delivering 136 PS & 220 Nm (230 Nm with power boost)
3-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel with 116 PS & 270 Nm in the Cooper D
4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo diesel with 170 PS & 360 Nm in the Cooper SD
4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo with 192 PS & 280 Nm (300 Nm with power boost) in Cooper S

Depending on the engine choice, MINI is offering a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed Steptronic transmission or a Steptronic sports unit.

MINI has already disclosed UK pricing details and the model kicks off at 15,900 GBP for the base Cooper. Next up is the Cooper D at 17,050 GBP, the Cooper S at 19,255 GBP and the Cooper SD which costs 20,050 GBP.

Deliveries of the 2014 MINI five-door hatchback are set to commence this fall once production begins at the Oxford plant.

That is way nicer looking than the clubman, and looks very much like our Countryman, just shorter.
Current: Golf R and a corporate lease nobody cares about

      New Clubman

Following last week's teaser, MINI has released a comprehensive gallery with the second generation Clubman.

Set to become the company's largest model ever, the new Clubman now has four side doors along with the two rear barn doors bringing the total to no less than six. The design is not surprising at all taking into account MINI revealed a near-production concept more than a year ago and as you can see the production model is virtually identical.

Technical specifications are not available at this point, but chances are the car has roughly the same size as the concept so it will likely be 4223 mm long, 1844 mm wide and 1450 mm tall. Compared to the old model, the new Clubman is a whopping 260 mm longer, 161 mm wider and 24 mm taller. It uses the same engines as the other recent MINIs and in some of the pics you can also see the Clubman S which will have a 2.0-liter turbo with 192 PS (141 kW) and 280 Nm (300 Nm with overboost).
