  • Spot in or respray

So as many of you know I picked up a 1988 E30 325is a day ago. It has a few rust spots down by the skirts, and you can tell one of the fenders is a hair away from flaking, there is also a few tiny spots of clear peel.

I am wondering if it's more cost effective for me to just pay to respray the entire car the same colour (in hopes of preserving it for the future), or to pay to blend in and patch the small spots (I'd likely use screamin paintworks, they did killer work on my 335i).

I have set a budget for restoring/modding the car, and I really don't want to exceed it!

All depends on why did the clear peel?

It will most certainly not be more cost effective to paint the whole car. Youre looking at 5k+ for a full respray

Spotting in will not do, the rust is in too deep. Now to track down new doors and rockers.

Edit: Looks like I can probably just do new rockers for now.

Only issue is now my go to paint shops are booking for fall....

I'll pay someone cash to spot my car in!
