  • Bugatti Chiron Thread

New details are starting to emerge about the highly anticipated Bugatti Veyron replacement likely to be called “Chiron.”

The Bugatti Veyron came out way back in 2005 so obviously the engineers are hard at work on its successor which will be better in just about every single way. Although it will retain the enormous W16 8.0-liter quad turbo engine, output will be bumped from the Veyron Super Sport's 1,200 HP (882 kW) to somewhere in the region of 1,500 HP (1,103 kW) while torque will remain at 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft).

Automobile Magazine says the additional power will be possible by using at least two electrically-powered turbochargers, with the power of the engine being channeled to both axles through a tweaked dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox. The additional oomph will allow the Chiron to hit a maximum speed of 288 mph (463.5 km/h), thus making it quicker than the unrestricted Veyron Super Sport which established a 268 mph (431 km/h) land speed record for a production car. Speaking of the Veyron SS, the production version was electronically limited to 258 mph (415 km/h).

Getting back to the Chiron, the report states a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in less than 2.5 seconds and carbon ceramic brakes to stop the beast efficiently. Other goodies on the menu include active air deflectors, huge rear wing while the overhauled interior will boast a speedometer going all the way up to 500 km/h (310.7 mph). It is believed 92 percent of the Chiron's components will be either new or massively reworked.

As a final note, we remind you VW Group's design chief Walter de Silva described Bugatti's upcoming model as "more than" just a Veyron replacement. He also said it will be a "piece of art" and the firm has put 'a lot of effort in the technology to "redefine the benchmarks" with a supercar that has been in development over the last four years. The car will be previewed towards the end of next year before being introduced sometime in 2016.

      Re: Bugatti Chiron Thread

A couple of prototypes of the Bugatti Chiron wearing the production body were spotted roaming the public roads.

Gone is the bulky rear end of the Veyron as Bugatti’s new masterpiece looks substantially sleeker and it’s easy to notice the design similarities with the spectacular Vision Gran Turismo concept that debuted last month in Frankfurt. There are actually two prototypes and these have different taillights, but most likely both of them are provisional and won’t make it to the production car set to be unveiled next year.

The rest of the car seems ready to hit the assembly line in Molsheim, France and as you can see it has a prominent rear wing and a central fin that extends from the roof to the hypercar’s back. Many of the bits and pieces will be made from carbon fiber to compensate the added weight commanded by the hybrid setup boosting total output to somewhere in the region of 1,500 PS (1,103 kW) coming from the W16 8.0-liter quad turbo engine said to take advantage of e-turbo tech.

The Bugatti Chiron is expected to show up in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show and it is believed only 500 units will be made, with each carrying an eye-watering starting price of $2.2 million which will make it around $1 million more expensive than its predecessor. Despite the exorbitant price tag, it is believed a “double-digit number of clients” have already placed an order for what will be the fastest production car ever made as Bugatti is targeting a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in a little over 2 seconds and a 280 mph (450 km/h) top speed.

Although the Volkswagen Group is going through the dieselgate and they have announced plans to postpone and/or cancel models, the Chiron apparently isn’t one of them and will be out as scheduled, just like the much-debated Volkswagen Phaeton.

              Re: Bugatti Chiron Thread

              Some new details:

Extensive details have emerged about the highly-anticipated Bugatti Chiron programmed to show up in Geneva in March 2016.

Two undisclosed sources cited by Autogespot.nl have revealed the Veyron replacement will use an evolution of the W16 8.0-liter quad-turbo engine with 1,500 PS (1,103 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1,107 lb-ft). They managed to find out this piece of information during a preview event organized in Dubai at the St. Regis hotel.

The engine will work with a seven-speed DSG transmission and will enable the Chiron hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 2.3 seconds. Perhaps more impressive is the 0-186 mph (0-300 km/h) journey believed to take as little as 15 seconds. Although there’s no exact word at this moment about top speed, those two anonymous sources say the speedometer will go all the way up to a magical 500 km/h (311 mph).

The Veyron successor will allegedly ride on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport PAX tires backed by 420-mm front and 400-mm rear brake discs. In order to ensure proper cooling for the beefier engine, the hypercar will have a whopping 15 radiators. For the sake of comparison, the Veyron "only" has 10.

According to the same people, the exterior design will essentially be a toned down version of the Vision Gran Turismo concept with four-point LED headlights and a rear LED long strip.

Production will be limited to 500 units and it is believed 120 people have already signed up to get the Chiron.

                        More details and pics

Previewed by the Vision Gran Turismo concept last year, the Chiron is Bugatti’s much awaited replacement for the Veyron and aims to be better in just about every possible way. While the styling is evolutionary, what's hiding underneath the familiar skin is considerably different than its predecessor and it uses a full carbon fiber construction.

In addition, Bugatti boss Wolfgang Dürheimer says the Chiron is basically an all-new car as it uses a small amount of components sourced from the Veyron. The upgraded W16 8.0-liter engine with four turbochargers now develops a massive 1,500 PS (1,103 kW / 1,479 hp) at 6,700 rpm and 1,181 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque between 2,000 – 6,000 rpm. The engine is linked to a reworked seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to both axles.

The revised hardware arrangement grants a sprint to 62 miles (100 kilometers) per hour in less than 2.5 seconds, 0 to 124 mph (200 kph) in less than 6.5 seconds and 0 to 186 mph (300 kph) in fewer than 13.6 seconds. It will continue to accelerate until reaching a limited speed of 261 mph (420 kph), making it marginally faster than the Veyron.

The Bugatti Chiron is 82 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 53 mm higher than the Veyron and is also 341 pounds (155 kilograms) heavier, so now it tips the scales at a hefty 4,398 pounds (1,995 kilograms.) The increased footprint has enabled a more spacious cabin where there’s now 12 mm of additional headroom.

Bugatti has already received more than 150 orders for the Chiron which will be limited to 500 units, each priced at €2.4M / $2.61M. Production will take place at the Molsheim factory in France and deliveries are programmed to begin in October.

The new Chiron will be available for your viewing pleasure starting Thursday when the 86th Geneva Motor Show will open its doors to the general public.
