  • Single tire replacement?

Is there a stated tollerence for mismatched tires on a quattro system? If you blow a tire on day one, obviously no need to buy 4, but if there is wear, all 4 is a good idea. But how do you make the call? Les Schwab site in the States says 3/32 or more, replace all four.

Sister in law blew a tire on her Q5...

Actually, I've just checked my manual and it just says to at least replace in pairs. Nothing about replacing all four. It does say tread style and tire construction should match

you can safely run up to a 4% rolling diameter difference on quattro &4motion. Even if 1 tire was brand new vs the 3 other quite worn tires you would be fine.

But i would recommend if the tire is past half its life i would probly just replace the pair.

Cool. That's what I'm seeing. Manual itself says pairs is recommended and really only suggests all at once for the sake of common service interval on all four. In this case, there is 3/32nd difference between existing tires and a new oone.

Audi dealer confirm everything said here. One tire is fine with this amount of wear. If the wear was more, they would recommend changing just two. So Kal Tire's recommendation of replacing all 4 was unfounded.
