I do a self inspection but i still don't trust myself 100% so i always get a second hand inspection done if it is not a mk4 which i know the in's and out's of. Plus another set of eyes is always helpful, plus they give you an unbiased opinion overall on the car purely based on its shape, not on whether they want the car or not

It helps to have fresh eyes look at it as you might have stars in your eyes for this new cheap car.

Seeing the car on a hoist helps too.

If you are buying a used car in the next little bit

    1. Check the spare tire, but underneath the tire for silt or signs of water

    2. Check under all the floor matts really well

    3. Check with a flash light underneath the car and look at places like the power steering rack and control arms. If its an audi awd look around the rear differential area for signs of mud. Also check in the engine bay behind the engine and down towards the belly pan if its still there. Most times when it is pressure washed out they do it from the front, so if you just look from the front you can easily be decieved.

    4. Try every switch and window in the car, don't leave anything not touched.

In terms of a PPI, the one thing that will tell you the most is the tires. The fronts you check on the inside for uneven wear, typically a sign of alignment/front end issues. If the tires are all brand new that is a way to cover up the alignment issues as well. Different brands or models of tires around the car, should put up a flag. Check the backs as they can be rotated and moved back there.

There are more things for a PPI, but most times common sense and a test drive can find those

Many of the flood vehicles are showing up at auction here http://www.impactauto.ca/runList?act...&siteCode=CLNC

Friend who goes to these auctions warned me that they have started to appear.

As a tool to help in some cases Carfax offers a free flood damage check

Also the Consumer protection agency is issued warning about the cars damaged in the floods:
