Sounds like a blown turbo to me, rather than a bad HG.

Did you used to live in Calgary? I always saw your CQ on the street.... pretty noticeable with the PRY4SNO plate on it... not sure why I JUST put that together.

Headlight level sensors are attached to one front and one rear lower suspension arm. They are simple potentiometers that just read and compare load front to rear (by suspension compression). The silver container is the brake system vacuum pump for the automatic transmission cars (according to the Bentley manual - I don't have that on my manual equipped car).

What was the cause of this car's demise? doesn't look like it was hit in the front too hard (or at all).

The more likely cause of the coolant in the intercooler would be a fubared turbo. I don't see coolant making it back into the intercooler from the combustion chamber (headgasket).

No that's the driveway in front of the garage. B7 A4 parked on street behind CQ.

That's a great idea to use the side of the front yard as an extra car pad!

    And so the teardown begins...

    Week one:

Donor car comes in the form of a 2002 A4 1.8tq with 130k km and a tiptronic transmission.

No final plans for build as of yet, first impressions are to have a look at the crank and decide from there.

Haven't had time to edit my photos, but figured I'd post an early teaser for the locals.

    Enjoy!

I see a dark grey coolant tank that I'll use for my car, and what's that silver cylinder below? Headlight auto-level sensor?

Speaking of coolant... when I went to take the elbow off the bottom of the IC, oil and coolant both spilled out, separately. So is the HG likely f'd?

WTF am I supposed to do with this mess? I'm assuming they go to headlights and the radiator and/or A/C condenser.

That's all for now. Day one was basically pulling off and disconnecting all the easy, obvious stuff and labeling what I know along the way. Today will get gritty as I dig deeper. This car was neglected.
