Re: Tesla Motors
The 2008 Lightning GT

In 2006, The Lightning Car Company set out to develop electric technology for a luxury British sports car with a view to creating a super car with outstanding presence, power & performance.
Powered by NanoSafe™, the electric Lightning GT, features an impressive 700 bhp powerful acceleration and a top speed capability of more than 130mph. In short, the electric Lightning will be a difficult proposition to beat.
By combining classic, British sports car design with racing car technology and state of the art battery power & electric motor innovation, the Lightning has been designed and developed in the UK with exhilarating performance front of mind.
Whilst its head-turning looks will appeal to the most discerning of drivers, unlike other sports cars the Lightning is also easy on the conscience. With virtually no polluting emissions, this energy-efficient car will use clean technology for the ultimate green rating. Following production of several Lightning petrol prototypes, the electric Lightning GT, Sports and Extended Range versions are now available to pre-order.
THE ELECTRIC LIGHTNING - TOP 10 FEATURES
√ Ultra smooth 100% electric power (700+bhp) immediately from zero rpm
√ 10 minute charge time for over 250 miles of motoring (GTSE model)
√ Uncompromising performance with 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds (GTS model)
√ State of the art NanoSafe™ battery system and Hi-Pa Drive™ electric motor technology
√ Full regenerative braking so the battery receives charge every time you slow down, travel downhill or simply coast
√ Commanding presence of carbon fibre/Kevlar hand-crafted bodywork
√ Clean technology means no congestion charge or road tax and the ultimate A grade green rating
√ Phenomenal economy up to 10 x cheaper to run than petrol
√ Safer with no large fuel tank, thermally stable batteries and a bodywork structure similar to that used in F1 to protect the driver
√ Luxury spec. interior – incorporating sat nav, ipod interface and virtual engine sound

Re: Tesla Motors
You think maintenance would be high? I have heard thats the biggest reason why big car manufactures arent making electric cars: because maintenance is so low they wont make any money after the car is sold. Ill try to find some info to back that up.Originally posted by James View Postyeah....not even close. maintenance on that thing would no doubt be astronomic too
edit: Maybe im wrong, but it doesnt seem like its that fast of a car. ~200 ft/lb you get at 0 RPM tho which is why it jumps to 100 in 4 sec...

Re: Tesla Motors
Even with the demands of charging and discharging the battery pack on a daily basis, the batteries in the Tesla Roadster will give you more than 100,000 miles of peak performance driving. After that point, the battery will see only gradual drops in performance over time.
The driving range is 284 miles or close to 500 km, which is somewhere the same as my golf 2.0 is getting. Performance wise, you can't even compare this car to r32...
The only negative thing that somebody mentioned earlier would be cold and snow. I dunno how well the car would react and performe on the - degree temperature. But how often do you see Vipers, Ferrari, lamborghini, etc during the winter?
Probably one of the best bang for the buck these days...

The range will probably be like 80 km hahahaha
We'll see

Re: Tesla Motors
Electricity from the grid is 25+ times cheaper than getting the same power from a combustion engine. Not all grid power pollutes, and even the dirtiest coal plant is far more efficient than a car engine. Add in some solar panels to get a 10% boost (or more) and you're cooking.

Re: Tesla Motors
sure it only costs 2 cents per mile, but you're electricity bill is going to go up exponentially. If this were coupled with a renewable energy source i could see this fixing californias problems, but until then the pollution problem is just moving from the car to the power plant producing its electricity.

Yeah i wouldnt imagine they'd be very good in the winter :P

Re: Tesla Motors
probably wouldn't buy it, 2 reasons: wait to charge it, and will it get slower as the battery drains like 90's RC cars? lol

Tesla Motors
Last year I found out for the first time about this car. The Arnold ..."governor " anounced that the production of the vehicle will start somewhere arond the summer of 2007. Well, till this day there had been 350 of them already sold in US and I wonder, when the Tesla will arrive to Canada? Or wont...???
