rim lighting is definetly something i want to do, but would need an additional speedlight to do it. As tempting as spending another $400 is at the moment I think I am going to try and make do with two for now. I'd like to get another lightstand and larger umbrella in the meantime which are a fraction of the cost of the actual stobe.

Why is it the cool stuff is always expensive haha

    definetly chris.

are you a nikon or canon guy? if you are nikon we could combine speedlites and gear for even for strobist fun.

shoot me a PM and we can sort something out.

off camera lighting is lightyears better than the piece of crap they put on cameras and call them a flash.

i should have taken a setup shot so you could see how i did it, i will next time. Compared to the onflash camera the speedlight throws adjustable light both in terms of how wide or narrow the beam is, but its intensity. What the umbrella does it turn that hard bare light and make it creamy soft, and not give off much glare.

started a topic Smurf at Night

    Smurf at Night

Still on a bit of Tokyo time, can't sleep....its 330am now.
Decided to go out 45 minutes ago for a quick night photoshoot.

Braved the crack addicts and drunk losers from the nearby bar to take some shots of the smurf.
Took 2 speedlights, a lightstand and an umbrella out with me, found a cool location in an alley.

i'd like to start doing more of these and am going to need subjects, found a couple more cool locations....let me know what you got and i'll see if i want to shoot it. (blair....i want 20 minutes with the R8!)

I already know stuff i need to fix for next time but for a quick time out it worked well.
Working...
