I debate taking off my tint a lot, but it actually does help with interior heat, and headlights at night. Pain in the ass at the same time though.

    Re: Paying the Tint Tax

Back in the day (10+ years ago) I had a former Arizona car with pretty dark tint (came that way to my Mom, then me) and I got pulled and fined once. The second time I got pulled I had a very unfriendly officer who kept me for 45-60 minutes and gave me tickets for everything he could find including tint again and gave me two weeks to report to the station with my tint removed. Since then I have never wanted to deal with tint and left it off all my cars.

i had a cop write on my registration before for tint, the next time i got pulled over for tint he couldn't make it out but said that no one is supposed to write on it. that happened about 10 years ago but i don't think that would have changed.

I never had an officer look twice a my mk4 when it had pretty dark tint, Only comment it ever got was from my neighbor who is a CPS constable who just said "it looks pretty sick" haha its all attitude, just stick to "yes sir, no sir" and chances are you can get off with a warning...Just dont pull the duechy "my taxes pay your wage" thing or they will purposely make it worse on you.

I wonder about this whole writing on your registration. Not sure I would be ok with that.

well he told me to take it off but didnt make me, like i said he was just stood there bored senseless blocking the road to keep it clear for the fire trucks n just spotted me.

Ill have to check my Reg Doc to see if he marked it at all.

The fine was $57. so it sounds like ill just ride with it still on n hope the same guy doesnt get me twice.

The tint amount? i dont know it came with the car but it isnt as dark as many i see. Been riding with it for 5 years and this was the first ticket, been sat next to cops on the road a few times as my work is right next to the station and theyve never said a word.

    bah

Yeah we were 10 mins behind and he had another Jetta pulled over and the poor guy was scrapping windows

A friend of mine has a 2000 Ranger, with the front windows tinted, tinted pretty dark at that. The PO had the tint installed the same week he bought in 2000 so in 10 years, they have been no tickets.

I had 20% on all windows in my Mk4 Jetta, in 2 years I got one ticket. $57 each front window, got the ticket on the highway near Red Deer, during a cruise!

What % did you have on the car? Im think about getting 40% around, and don't want to have this problem.

I have 3 tint tickets 10 years. On the same car, the one cop wrote on my registration that I was pulled over for window glaze and dated it. Folded it back up and I did not notice. I was pulled over again a couple of weeks later and received another ticket for window glaze and that cop showed it to me. Didnt tell me to take it off. Same price for both tickets.
