Re: Painting
the guy i talked to said that the quality of the finished product depends on your preperation, obvoiusly statement but it stood out to me.Originally posted by Ryan View Postoh really?? how much sanding is enough lol? i'd love to get mine fixed
he says make sure you get all the clear coat off. then he said make sure it's smooth. so i went online to do a little research first, and technically it's pretty basic.
i'm just gona get a shitload of sandpaper (oh no i forgot what grit, i'll have to phone him again). put it on my electric sander. and just sand away. but i have to be careful not to sand into the urethane
once you sand down the paint, then you need to use a lighter grit paper to smooth it all off.
then you wash it with a bucket of soap and water. and at that point, i'm going to wrap it in saran wrap and bring it to him
hopefully i'll start sandin tomorrow

For those of you who like doing some of the bodywork yourself. I was at Sam's Autobody the other day and was talking to one of the owners. They have a deal with some bodyshops in town for getting small parts painted for cheap. not entire cars, and you have to bring the part in to them.
it takes 3 days. and if you sand the part yourself, it's super cheap. i was talking a bit tonight about it at the meeting.
i'm using an electric sander and sanding my front and rear bumper of the s4. i bring it to SAm's Autobody.. and 3 days later + ~$300 , I pick them up repainted and clear coated
