Re: why you need locking lug nuts...
I think Bob should start adding a service like this where the wheels are marked on the inside. Might be a cheap way to give people a extra piece of mind and some an extra income source for him.

The way I read nismo's post was:Originally posted by aliencurv View Postit's funny, i know a few ppl who bought wheels of kijiji or beyond or craigs list. cleary stole, because they always wanna meet in a parking lot in the NE for the exchange. aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, anyone i know would buy them no matter what. who's gonna call the police to report they just spend 1,000 bux on stolen wheels? they're out the G note....
good thing we have insurance right? i mean, any of you with modified cars must certainly have the responsibility to obtain an appraisal for your enhancements, right?
it was the wheelshop that would have dismounted the tire from the rim and saw the message, not the buyer who bought the stolen wheels, unless the buyer had a tire machine and was very ethical.

Re: why you need locking lug nuts...
That was one helpful opinion. I have this new vw lug nuts that one of my friend gave me, i really don't know much about this part, i just replace it when i have a new one, but then i don't really take this as a major part but only an accessory.Originally posted by nismodrifter View PostRegarding wheel theft/identification methods: I remember seeing a thread many many years ago in which a guy affixed a piece of laminated paper or something of that sort to the barrel of the wheel prior to the tires being mounted. The message said something like "if you unmount the tires and you see this message call XXXXXX city police because these wheels are stolen". Police was called. Thief got pwnt and LOLS were had. Can't remember what forum this was on but it was hilarious. Something to think about..Last edited by travisman; 04-16-2011, 12:59 AM.

Re: why you need locking lug nuts...
These must be some pretty damn fancy stock wheels. The stock tire, I can get on Tirerack for $1064 OEM TPMS for $156 and the most expensive wheel I can get is a BBS RD for $1,940 for a total of 3,160. Including shipping, and mounting, the total would come to $3,920.51 pump that number through xe.com and that comes to 3,968.73 CAD. Where does the extra 7 grand come from?
Also, what would engraving the vin do? Pretty much make it impossible to sell the wheel, if you ever needed to.

Re: why you need locking lug nuts...
Why are the dealerships not engraving the vin number on the inside of the wheels? It would at least give legitimate tire places a chance to catch them when changing tires.

Re: why you need locking lug nuts...
my guess is OEM unless you can work out a deal that you just get a payout for OEM equivilant value.
