Re: Lapping Session - Race City
I have photos from that infamous z off and of all of the other cars I laid to waste. Some amazing machinery there. The red z was the luckiest guy on earth. He was the off track guy on 3 earlier. He then proceeded to push faster after jay warned everyone about the track, so much he pyloned off section of 6. Never seen that. Rolled a car, in the mud. Missed getting submerged in a swamp. Only had a scratch on his arm but missed by 5' dying maybe. It made me not get a convertible, was bidding on a monster miata with 400hp on eBay that week.

Re: Lapping Session - Race City
Bump. I got out to race city today this morning for the first time. Went out with one of Allen Berg's programs. What a blast. It really was a siht-tone of fun. There were lots of very interesting and cool cars; a Tesla, the oldest Volvo ever (with BBS wheels to boot), a 427 built motor supercharged Vette etc. Watching the Vette launch during some of the on track instruction was a hoot 'cause it was super rank.
We were grouped into threes for the instruction laps and I was grouped with a B8 S4 and a RS4 - Team Audi! I never got to run behind the RS4 so I don't know about it but the B8 and I were dead even down the straight.
Anyway, the car ran great and although I said before I went out that I would be a pussy and take it easy the more times I went around the faster and harder I drove. On the open lapping session I had a Z06 a few cars behind be at the start and I caught him by the cool down lap.
Anyway, regardless of what you drive if you actually really like driving get out there!! You only have one more season to do it.Last edited by JPO; 07-15-2011, 08:34 PM.

Re: Lapping Session - Race City
That car is 1963 Huffaker Genie Mk. 8, an actual can-am car raced by Dan Gurney. Weighs 1600lbs and makes over 400 bhp.Originally posted by Deuce View PostYep. There was also a race car out there as well. Basically something for everybody, old, new, euro, Japanese, domestic, race cars, stock'ers, etc. I'd say there was between 30 and 40 rides out. Good times!

Did you happen to see this beast out there?Originally posted by Deuce View PostWow, what a night that was.
Let's see here, to summarize the good:
- The old skool Cobra... man that thing is wicked sounding.
- The Ferrari Scuderia... not my type... but so awesome.
- I could listen to the RS4 lap the track all night long and never get sick of it.
- Upped my speed about 15 kph on the front straight with more confidence in the car and the brakes. It was fantastic. The VR6 definitely sounded different than pretty much everything else out there.
As for the bad:
- Well... I'm at work... not at the track... that's bad.
- There were a couple of spin-outs (1 on corner 3 but kept it on track)... the other on the chickane or whatever (turns 7-8-9) who went off the course into the marsh and had to be pulled out.
- And 1 Red Flag. Let's just say... Red Z4... too fast... not enough experience... spun off track... and ended up... with the "this side down"... not down! Guy was ok... thank God... but the car... she'll need some work!
Anyhow... was a great experience... and will definitely be out at Race City a few times this year. Likely more to just watch and hang out. Definitely come and say hi if you see me in the .:R.
Cheers... and enjoy your respective lapping events guys. Deuce.

Re: Lapping Session - Race City
The S4 held up pretty good at the track it could carry 120 thru turn 1 which is more than i thought its fat ass would do.

Re: Lapping Session - Race City
i know even on snow tires i was very happy with how balanced my s4 was compared to my old GTi. my old VR was FWD and front heavy and just plowed its way around the corners.
great to hear you had a fun time deuce.
Were you running the bus stop backwards?

Sweet, I am really looking forward to getting out, hopefully the S4 surprises to the upside like your R.Originally posted by Deuce View PostThoughts on Day 1 of the event:
- Anyone who hasn't been to a track event at least once with their car needs to go. For me personally, I had no idea that the .:R would corner and stop as well as it does. Of course, 40 psi and a set of KW V2's doesn't hurt.
- The track isn't exactly "smooth" pavement but agreed, for a road car it's liveable
.
- My 5 hot laps with the instructor in his Red BMW 3-series were ridiculous. If I wasn't being choked by the seatbelt, I was thinking to myself... "Where does he keep the barf bags?"
. Man... he could really hustle that thing around the track.
- Them Jeep SRT8's can really move. Not sure if the Black one was "100% stock" or not but holy crap... that thing pulled like a freight train down the front stretch.
Overall, it was a blast. Can't wait for Day 2 tonight. The .:R loves the 1-2-3 after the straightaway and 12 or whatever the last corner is before the beginning of the straight. I had a couple of Mustang GT's behind me for a number of laps and although they would close the gap on the straight, I would lose them on 1-2-3. They would then play catch-up all the way to about 11. However, I could always launch out of 12 on to the straight much cleaner and create a gap again down the stretch with more speed intially. I would usually see about 180 on the straight before corner 1 started to scare the sh*t out of me and I would get on the brakes really early. Still trying to master the heel & toe downshifting which is doable quite consistently when I'm calm and decelerating off of a Deerfoot exit ramp. However, on the race track with cars behind, in front, corners coming flying up, drver instructor going "go, go, go, GO!"... is entirely a different story! Oh well... practise!
PS. My good friend Rick was out taking a few shots so here's a pic for clicks. If I can get a few more... will post them up as well.
Cheers all.
