Geee, Kor comes up with a perfectly simple and easy to grasp concept then CT goes and blows it all up in the air again by putting up a piccy with a fourth step in it, this **** really is confusing. Whats the first step, stage -1, hybrid motor replacement???

this is sweet! i have no experience with 'chips' only EMS systems, and this plug and play ability has always interested me. lucky lucky.

no you can pull the chips and just simply plug in a new one.

For example, I will be running a 42# software for my bigger injectors that will give me a better fueling map and ability to use all of the new fueling additions.

I simply pop out the old chip and pop in the new one. Takes less than 5 minutes to do. You can also custom tune these chips if you have the sofrware.

There are a bunch more thing you can do as well.
You can do light mods that give you a bit more HP for farily cheap.
    Ie. CAI, catback exhaust.
Im not to sure whether or not those are classified in stages though.
The only minor performce enhancing things in my car are a Magnaflow Catback exhaust and a K & N air filter(although not really performce). Soon to be accompanied by a CAI and a Diverter valve

beauty of the 1.8T is its all able to be controlled via the chips o you dont really need any stand alone EMS until you really get high into the power.

    Re: Noob Question

if you are at 205 now then another 25% increase (to pull you to 250hp) can be achieved in a few ways. without touching hardware you can install a new EMS (engine management system). this can be programmed to increase your stock turbo's boost pressure and give you better fuel maps. the problem with this is you are running more power on stock hardware and parts get stresses and beak. i am new to the DUB world so dont know how strong individual engine components in the 1.8T engines are. upgrading your fuel system: particularly the injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulators are a good way eliminating "weak links" if you are running more boost pressure.
for a more reliable power increase though you should look at doing fuel system AND a bigger turbo with new manifolds (exhaust at least). this will undoubtedly require a recalibration/reprogramming of your ECU (electronic control unit: the cars computer) or a new EMS. with a bigger turbo oil cooling becomes an issue too and you should look at installing a larger oil cooler depending on how hard you drive.
have no illusions though, more power will stress internal components of your engine such as piston rings, bearings, valves, springs, etc. again, i am not sure how strong these individual components of the 1.8T engine are, so i dont know how much reliability you sacrifice with certain power increases. for reference, take a Nissan SR20DET motor, found in the Silvia (stock ~200-250hp depending on year) and you can pull 350-400 hp reliably out of the engine and without much modification. the Nissan RB26DETT motor found in Skylines have been able to pump out 500hp reliably, again without much modification.
rule of thumb: power, reliability, cheap...pick 2, sacrifice the third.

i would greatly appreciate being corrected on any misinformation i posted here ! ! ! ! thanks in advance to the knowledgeable.

best is to have a BUDGET and HP goal in mind. First figure out which one is more important to you, then adjust the other accordingly and go from there. People often forget these two are interwoven

What's required to reach each level on my 337?
    Huh!?!
My 337 = GTi 1.8T (Euro 25th Anni). My question was what is required to reach each Stage 1/2/3. Eventually I'd liek to have about 250-270 Hp. I'd guess right now with just the REVO chip I got 205?

    thanks for the info guys!!!

    Re: Noob Question

    Found it......

    Stage 1 = chip
    Stage 2 = chip + catback
    Stage 2+ = chip + turboback
Stage 3 = Stage 2+ and bigger turbos
Stage 3+ = Created after a few people decided that the first three stages were too easy to understand. This can mean pretty much anything you want. We could make more stages, but we need to be able to flame n00bs for something so it's best for us to keep it confusing.

BTW, We're not flaming but as you're beginning to see, it's very misleading.
