Re: Noob Question
Dang, I need to find that description Brice posted in the S4 thread. I think it describes it perfectly.
Basically there is no standard. Most people like to say it to sound cool. One company could say stage1=winter mats while another company stage1=chip and injectors.

I guess the people who market and manufacture these parts are wrong?
What would you have liked them to call their products?

Re: Noob Question
its all about the packages each company puts together. As i mentioned previously and Kor repeated. It makes it easy to say "I have the Stage 1 Kinetic Kit" rather than listing off the bits and pieces you have.

Re: Noob Question
I think the whole stage 1 - infinity stuff is the most retarded thing ever.
It should be, how much power do you want to make? Heres what you should use.
I've seen some companies that tune saabs have stage 7+Last edited by edicius; 12-11-2007, 04:40 PM.

Re: Noob Question
All of the above is pretty much wrong IMO - There is no standard meaning by car or otherwise.
Performance companies often use the terms "Stage 1" "Stage 2" etc to refer to upgrade kits. For example "Stage 1" is the basic upgrade, "Stage 2" is the basic plus a little more, and "Stage 3" is a lot more. What that actually includes depends on what they sell.
Think of it as "Tall, Grande, Venti" at Starbucks. It just means Small, Medium and Large. If you say you have a Stage 3, you got the large.
For a lot of cars Stage 3 involves a turbocharger or supercharger since this is how you make "large" power. Stage 1 often does not involve forced induction upgrades because they are too expensive for a "small".
If you aren't a vendor or buying a kit from a vendor, you should probably not use the terms to describe your car.Last edited by Kor; 12-11-2007, 04:41 PM.

Re: Noob Question
To confuse you more... on a 1.8T this is how its typically broken down
Stage 1: Chip
Stage 2: above plus exhaust/intake (and any other small item)
Stage 3: Turbo upgrade (GT28/K04)
Stage 3+->4 Anything bigger then that... built engine... custom manifolds, according to APR a GT28rs turbo/2871r for TT

Re: Noob Question
these are the different power levels in a turbo kit. The numbers vary for different companies but it generally means you add a turbo or slightly bigger one, then you add a better intercooler, then you add better fueling and even bigger turbo.
They basically comprise a package of parts to reach a certain level of power.
For example I am doing a Kinetic Stage 3+ on my VR.
The Stage 1 is just a simple turbo addition with parts that support it
The Stage 2 adds an intercooler onto the initial Stage 1 upping the power potential
The Stage 3 adds more fueling and a headspacer to lower compression allowing more boost and more power
The Stage 3+ was a custom kit with a few extra parts included to allow for even MORE power.

Noob Question
Hey Guys,
What does "Stage 1" or "Stage 2" or "Stage 3" mean exactly? How do you differentiate between them?
What's required to reach each level on my 337?
Thanks
