Re: oil and gas???
Better than no oil at all, but generally no.
But if you're stuck at a gas station you can put 5/30 in with 5/40, but change it next time you can. If you have full synth in there, try and get semi-synth at least. Most stations have at least that.Last edited by Khyron; 02-12-2008, 04:35 PM.

Re: oil and gas???
5/40 synth as mentioned, especially in 1.8T. Don't beat the piss out of the car and turn it off right away either. I use Penzoil platinum 5/40 synth, only because it's a few bucks cheaper than the syntec. I still feel that 0/40 is too thin.

Re: oil and gas???
yes and 91 octane.. the chart reco posted is good
the 5w is good for cooler climates as its thinner for startup flow
the 40 rating means the hotter your engine gets the oil will thicken and work better.. best in turbo applications
a vr6 im thinking probably uses just 5w30 but synthetic

Re: oil and gas???
owners manual says use the 5W 40 syn. and it also says use 91 octane or grater in the VR6 and 1.8T engines. I know for sure my VR6 knocks if you use anything lower than 91. soooooo if you stay true to the oil you might as well for the gas too
