VW parts swapping rules! I want to get my hands on a 90-92 GTI for a 12V VR6 swap.

monday, here's how the day went.

built a block of plate for the return side of the charger. it's only temporary, but works. i do like that it's clear though.

    fitted the intercooler, and intake.

i installed all the related hoses, sorted out the vacuum lines and started reassembly.

since the intercooler was meant for a corrado, i had to choose function over form. meh, you only see the tail lights anyway!

got the car pulled outside for warm up and check over.

i ended up having to relocate a clamp on the IC as the screw would touch the tire on hard turns. i also need to rewire the fan circuit as the corrado pins were a different location, and they wouldn't turn on. i still need to hook up the speedo cable as well. 7pm, i took the car for a drive. it's fun.

the aftermath. took alot of unnecessary wiring and hoses out from the engine bay. gross.

overall, i'm pretty happy with the outcome of this project. it is my daily so down time had to be short. in between working my regular job, and fitting in some time at night, i'd say i probably have about 50 hrs+/- into this swap and the car was down for 16 days. next on the list is brake and spindle upgrade.

thanks for viewing, and thanks for your comments.

sunday. the car has been down for 15 days. i made a rough hook up of the main wires needed to power up the Digi1 ECU.

    then i started the car.

i only ran it for a few seconds. i have to hook up all the coolant lines, fill it up and reassemble the front end. i will make the final wire tie in to the ECU when i get some terminal ends on tuesday. pretty happy with the first crank start.

well today i tackled the drive belt. i was going to run A/C but have decided to forget it. i removed the A/C compressor and was pleased to find nice access to hoses.

since i deleted the power steering and pump, and that belt also drove the waterpump, i needed to turn it somehow. i fitted an ABA waterpump pulley and bought a shorter serpentine belt to make it work. you can still see the small v-groove pulley on the crank.

i spent the rest of the day removing the A/C condenser from the rad, and fitting the dual fans. i had to clearance the fan shroud a little bit around the charger, but other than that, it's a nice fit. i worked on cleaning up the wiring some more, and removing un-necessary hoses. i swapped some coolant flanges around that enable me to use my existing sensor wiring. i also flushed out the rad as i will be running G12 coolant. this is how i left it tonite.

and in case some of you were wondering, this is the mig i bought. for $200 bucks, it does what i need it to do, and it came with everything to weld, right out of the box.

haha! well maybe not 240 right away, but i need to upgrade the power because i will run a compressor later on. yea i'm pretty rusty, been a while. i didn't really do any test passes to get the feel of the mig which in hindsight would have been a good idea, but now that the heatsheild and exhaust are fitted, it'll do.

thanks again for the replies, guys. bring it by and i'll see what i can do.

Yeah I admire what you are doing here, pretty amazing, but you could practice your welding and get better, would be an asset.

You don't need 240V, you need lessons....

    Cool build and uber fast.

on to the update. today my parts showed up for the cable clutch. eurovan actuator, cable and bracket.

i installed the actuator in the slave cylinder location.

notice the difference between the two brackets?

i was going to build one but availability paved the way for new. here's the installed product.

works slick. i also grabbed some parts from the junkyard to make the swap a little cleaner.

i also cleaned up some more wiring and modified the Digi2 computer mount to accept the Digi1 computer.

i still have to paint and finish it off.
