I'm thinking of throwing a "weather protection" plate on maybe, but not to protect from things, just to keep snow from building up on the bottom of the engine and keeping slush out in general

I agree with Martin. I think it comes down to being a good driver and knowing your routes. I believe most the people who are quite low on the forums here don't run a skid plate.

My 2004 1.8t, non GLI has a hybrid pan.

Here is a question... why not buy a skid plate and save your oil pan as well as everything else under the car?

Skid plate just puts you that much closer to the ground. I have been driving my car low for the past 2.5 years in Calgary with the same oil pan I bought it with. I haven't had any issues, but if I had an aluminum pan I would have definitely broken it by now.

As i found out, if you have a skidplate and normal pan the skidplate can still bend up and crack your oilpan (you see the indent of where my oilpan was?)

04.5+ 1.8ts should have all had them. I've seen them on regular 1.8t's stock.

Just take a peek. If you can see it's black, it's a hybrid; silver, and it's the regular style.

And yes, there were '06 mk4's. not common, but they are out there.

I have not seen a stock car with a hybrid either. Who knows....

My GLI had one stock

Does anyone else have or has anyone seen an MK4 like mine (not a City aka a MK4.5 lol) that has a build date of 2006? Thinking mine must have been one of the last off the assembly line? or...

i cant remember where i heared this from, but i heared that the 2006' models were "built" in 2005, but "labeled" with a build date of 2006..... could be wrong though i dunno. Most people call the mexican golf (2008,2009,2010city) the mk4.5 but thats a little off topic. your car is still a mk4.

natty is correct that very few programs that actually list the 2007 city golf.

Edit: lol someone please correct me if I'm wrong and if It sounds rediculous. I have no idea if its right or not.

So all the "Hybrid" or upgraded pans are that two-piece design?

Yes they will be 2 piece for 1.8t and some with vr6 have upgraded to the mk3 vr6 pan

I have never seen it personally. But now looking at my catalog it does list a 06 mk4

As for the city cars most shops don't list the city as an application (as most programs are US). But yes same as mk4

I am 99% sure that nothing before 2004 came stock with a hybrid pan. After 2004 is some mixed reviews, but from what i hear almost all GLI's came with these pans (with a few exceptions i have read about) but i'm not sure about regular 1.8ts. They are definitely a good upgrade, and if the pan ever does hit (sits up higher) then it will dent instead of crack. It is usually an item you buy when you crack a pan but getting one ahead of time would be recommended so you aren't stranded for a few days without a car

Not sure about your oil pan questions but yes, mines an 07 mk4 city and I tell many shops or whatever that its the mk4 platform as a 2004.
