  • Looking to fill my notch... any recommendations?

I've really wanted to fill the notch properly in my hood ever since switching to the badgeless grill and lately I'm getting a little discouraged from the estimates I've received from two shops.

Calgary Coachworks - just shy of $1000
    Craftsman Collision - $2500

This has sort of lead me to think I might as well wait until there is a Mk6 hood extension piece available that I can bring in and cut down on the price of materials at least. I was thinking of hitting up Cosmos for an estimate soon but does anybody else recommend another body shop other than these three?

    TIA
    Isaac

    WOW.

Go talk to Stampede Collision, tell them Colin sent you. ~$1000 range doesn't sound too far out.

I could probably help you out with that, I have a pretty good fabricator on staff and we have done a fair bit of work here for RobG, including his hitches. I'd say you need about 4.5 hours body to fill that notch and 3.2ish to paint the hood. 474.75 in body, 408.00 in paint, some miscellenious charges for hazardous waste, perhaps an R/I on the hood.....

I think I could do it for 900ish, if a guy was interested.

PM me if you are interested I can tell you where my shop is,

      Cheers,
      Steve

I don't know how proper my way is but what my buddy did in his golf mk4 was he bought a plastic hood notch filler, glued it on real well, then filled the gaps with body filler, then painted the entire hood, looks like a professional job, very smooth and it still looks great after 1.5 years.

I would be interested to see how that hood has really held up after a bunch of hot and cold cycles from the winter

I was pretty worried back then but it seems pretty good.. Sounds pretty ghetto though.

Could always just swap on a carbon fibre hood for $800 which would be cool too.

Just looked on concept 1's website and mk4 golf hoods are $866 so it would be similar price im sure. Install is simple so you could definitely DIY. Just a thought, some people aren't down with carbon stuff but I think it's beast. Weighs so little too. Definitely a good alternative.

Yeah it's pretty light and looks very cool when painted, but will be pretty pricy

um if you have the notch piece, and want it welded in and painted I know a guy that can do it for $500 ish. He has been welding and worked autobody for like over 20 years so I dont think it should be much of a hassle for him.

PM me if you want to talk more

Not too sure if you guys are aware that I have a mk6 Golf.

Concept 1 only has the badgeless grill, and the filler that comes with it is plastic, not metal. I've scoured the forums and websites and so far nobody makes a notchless carbon fiber hood for the mk6 yet also nobody has the metal filler for the mk6 hoods yet.

I'll PM for more info though. Thanks guys!
