    I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’d never taken one out before but removal was easy and then I left the instal to the pros.

    Since the starter works when you power it directly from the battery, it seems you have an issue with the wiring itself or a fuse.

    Thanks - back window shrapnel is out and the “new" one is ready to go in but when I pulled the windshield I noticed the shop who replaced my OEM windshield scratched up the paint at the top corners...

    Since this is a cold-start issue, I don’t think it would be the CPS... in my case, starting issues were only with a hot engine.

    I’ve had this happen when my crank position sensor was failing - minus the alternator whine though.

    You should scan for codes and test your alternator with a multimeter first. Report back with...

    True... chances of taking a hit from the side directly on the B-pillar bar only would be slim to none.

    Kuji - you might have to just test your airbags to be sure they’re still functioning properly...

    These cars came with VR6’s in 2004... so you might be ok, not sure - just something to be aware of.

    I’ve actually thought of caging my GLI for the safety aspect as well. Way too many...

    Airbags do have a shelf life so, with the age of our cars, this can be a legitimate concern... and aside from the weight penalty, a cage is a great way to stiffen up the chassis. The pillar airbags...

    Thanks - the hail damage and winter put a stop on things for now but when the weather softens up I can get back at it... will need to address the front/back windows and hail damage and then I think...
