I've walked through East Hastings a bunch of times, I wouldn't do it at 3:00AM, but during daytime it's not bad.

This car sales place is a bit farther out, it's a crappy looking area but the people there aren't like the ones closer to downtown (and the free drug clinics).

Key word... Not bad. It's not an area you want to grow up in, per say. If it's one of the Iranian lot's I'm thinking of, don't even bother man. They **** you over in any way they can to make a buck & sell complete garbage.

I went and checked out that GLI, took it for a test drive too.

The Good:
No rust (except all along the front hood, probably due to the protector)
Recaros are in great condition
Transmission was shifting well
Turbo seemed to spool well

The Bad:
No service records at all (big red flag considering the condition of the next items)
Had to turn over 2 times to start, even though it had been driven just that morning
Engine is idling rough
Seems to misfire while driving (but I'm a diesel owner so maybe the "t.t.T.t t.t.T.t" sounds it makes are normal?)
All the aluminum trim (radio handles etc.) is badly dented and scratched (can't see it in the pictures but I have some alum trim in my TDI and this car's trim is trash, it looks like the trim was hailed on)
Steering wheel leather is in terrible shape (in the picture the top half is worn off and you can see the bottom leather also worn off)
Stock suspension was in poor shape, the car bounced a bit
Brakes didn't work unless they were pressed hard
Steering wheel was hard to turn even at speed (no power steering?)

Other:
There are wires all over the place going to various things, none of it hooked up anymore, maybe gps+sirrius+radar detector+something else, there was also wiring for a subwoofer in the trunk.
Headlights are really hazy

Conclusion:
I'd buy this as a rolling shell and put a new engine, alum trim and suspension in there.
But by then you could have bought a car in better shape to begin with. :/
I love the colour and the body condition, if I could pick this up for $3000 to $4000 I'd swap my TDI engine in there and all my alum trim and sell the rest of the other car parts lol.

This! Went and looked at a car that was "Lady Driven", literally had ZERO oil in it surprised it still ran. I would much rather see "Enthusiast Owned" on an ad.
