I use the same terminology, some of the "scene" guys will bash you for no reason for it, just because they feel they are better than you and that's the only thing they can pick on you for.
Rim = chunk of metal that is shaped fancy
Tire = Rubber thingy that typically holds air
Wheel = Rim + Tire that goes on your car as an assembly

If we get technical then Dan, those things that everyone calls "lips" are actually rims then... Personally, i think thats silly, and honestly so is this. I call it a rim, you call it a wheel, but everyone knows what each other is talking about. To be honest the only problem I see here is the one you're making out of nothing.

Nice clarification everyone, the whole point though is that at times awards at this show have been sponsored by a particular tire company so they offer an award for cars representing their brand, hence why it is asked/required.
