Audi Flat Botton Steering Wheel!

Sorry...no fancy picks or anything, but I was in Glenmore Audi (Calgary) today, and saw the new TT...It had a flat bottom steering wheel!

Not sure if this is some show car for their showroom, or if it is for sale, but I was under the thought that Audi didn't want to go to all the trouble and expense to get the flat bottom steering wheel into NA. I read somewhere that it didn't pass crash tests when drivers don't wear the seat belt in a crash.

Anyone hear otherwise?

afaik, the RS4 wheel was the one with "safety" issues...which is still a load of crap if you ask me. The TT wheel doesn't have multi-funtion buttons (correct me if I'm wrong) and the RS4 does...but tell me how that makes a difference in safety

Somehow I dont think its the buttons that make the difference.. but it would be interesting to find out. Bu yes.. the flat bottom wheel is stock on the TT.

ya it seems stupid...but that is the only "noticeable" difference?? I believe the airbags are identicle as some AW guys that have the RS4 wheel are using TT bags...

The new TT definitely has the flat bottom steering wheel with multifunction controls on it. I'm looking forward to picking mine up in a few weeks!!!

It's not the multifunction buttons that are the issue...when not wearing a seatbelt, in a crash your body drives into the steering wheel. With the flat bottom, there isn't enough resistence, and can cause more damage to your body.

My thoughts...if you don't wear a seatbelt, you're asking for it, and deserve anything you get.

I'm gonna look into the cost. That would be a sweet hop up.

i think the cost is like 1500US for the b7 rs4 wheel and airbag.. or 1250US something like that.. quite a bit anyways

I'm sitting here thinking, I wonder if its actually harder to steer with a flat bottomed wheel. Not sure why it would be any easier.
