B5 S4 Signal lights not working

Hmm,

Headed out today and went to signal a lane change and the lights blinked once and then quit. Same thing left and right. Did some testing when I got home and the hazard relay works. Signal light will blink once and I can feel the connection happen in the hazard relay, but then it just stops.

Did some searching and there seems to be people with a similar issue but no solutions.

Ideas?

Thats pretty much what happend when my relay failed it would do the first click then stop. I cleaned the contacts with some sandpaper then contact cleaner and it has been fine for the last 2 years. The only other thing that i could think would be wrong is the turn signal stock dying.

its the hazard relay built into the dash.. its with the 4ways button

mine went on me a few years back but the dealer replaced it under CPO

Well...I was going to remove it and try and clean up the contacts as suggested above. However, I....being a dumba$$....managed to break it on removal. Sooo, I'll be buying a new one whether it was needed or not. Gotta love it!!!!

I have a spare lying around somewhere since mine never re-broke after i fixed it. but you would have to wait until next weekend when i am down Calgary way

Is your blinker fluid full? Maybe thats it... and you broke the relay for nothing?

See, I didn't even think about the blinker fluid. Silly me. I only have the MK IV stuff and I am worried that if I overfill it then it will just blink randomly like was happening to Brent.

New flasher relay solved the issue. Gotta say, Erik at Royal Oak Audi was great. He read this thread, sent me a PM with his suggestions and part numbers, and even offered to stay late to accommodate my timing as I have to take the bus home from work. He's really working to build a great relationship with forum members and bends over backwards to help out. For Royal Oak parts, "stealership" couldn't be farther from the truth. Give them a call for all your parts needs, you may be surprised what they can do for you.
