  • god damnit!

so i was in invermere on the weekend, i blew out my drivers front tire.
no big deal i pull over to swap it out, and i find no tire iron, because of the custom stereo i have in my trunk.
BUT i do have a full sized spare.
so i call a tow truck company to help me out with getting the wheel off and back on.
so it turns out i need both fronts to be replaced due to poor alignment :(

so i guess i need to replace both of them now?
i would kinda rather wait untill spring time, but i may not have a choice.
and i dont really wanna toss on my winters this week...

why do expenses hit me when i work part time vs full time?

I would reccommend a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires. I got a set of 235/40/18 shipped to my door from Discount Tire Direct for ~650 bucks last year. Great tires, very quiet, tons of grip and recently beat the benchmark PS2's in a comparison test.

The G-Force's are so loud its ridiculous.

I really like my Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. They rank on par with the Bridgestone Potenza RE11 in the dry, and exceed them in the wet. Yet cheaper, at a grand shipped. Aggressive tread design with a surprisingly livable noise profile.

I'm confident the switch from Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Positions is a big upgrade. Technically going from UHP ==> Semi-R compound, I suppose. For the record, the RE050A PP are no slouch either as they also equal or better the Pilot Sport PS2s in various wet/dry industry tests.

What size are you looking for? We have a few tires lying around that would tide you over until next year.

The tire shop says need to replace all four or my transfer case is risked to blow?
But if I replace with the same as the rear tires, why would this risk anything????

that's standard advice for anything that is all-wheel just because the outside diameter of the new wheels will be larger than the worn wheels by some amount, so they essentially roll at different speeds, which can bugger drive line components. Different brands will also vary by some amount in OD, even if new. If you are staying with the same tire, and your old tires are still in good shape, it probably isn't the end of the world, but if your old tires were worn out, and you but two new ones on it could cause more strain on drive line.

Same reason you should replace in at least 2s on a 2wd car.

Sorry, we don't have any 19s, and I have been told the same thing about making sure all 4 are the same for the AWD!

Definitely true, different wheel speeds will work your differentials harder. How much tread is left on the rear tires? It seems a little over-the-top to be worrying about a few 1/32's of an inch here. If you have 50% tread left, or more, on the rear, I wouldn't worry about replacing the rear tires.

Solid advice. I blew a single tire last year, and could not afford, even remotely, 2 tires. So i threw on just one tire. Worked fine. Sold the car.
