  • Coolant Reservoir Crack

My engine is a big, pink gooey mess. I've tracked it down to a big crack on the bottom of the coolant reservoir (how does THAT happen?).

Part is on order from Erik, and I'm wondering....do I do it myself, or get george to take care of it?

The "deepest" I've been into my B5 S4 engine is to change spark plugs and a coolant temp sensor. It's right on top, so I'm thinking it should be easy-peasy.

Google hasn't been that helpful so far.

Jordan / Ryan .... anything I have to be aware of in changing it? I'm expecting to lose some coolant. Looks like I just disconnect the hoses from the old tank and attach to the new one....then refill with the proper coolant. Is that it, or are there "tricks" I have to be aware of?

Thanks for not flaming the mechano-noob.
    Jeff

You should be able to do it easily. Let me know if you need help. And, no there is nothing to really think about. You can also just top up with distilled water, assuming you don't lose litres of antifreeze.

If its already empty, thats half the battle!
Unscrew, pull all sensors and replace!

Yes that is pretty typical on these reservoirs, being situated right above the turbo just gets them too hot and they will crack sooner or later. I just replaced mine recently as it was getting pretty yellow and looking like it was ready to split at any time.
