  • Audi OEM brake pads / dust

Been driving my white Q5 for a bit and am getting tired of cleaning the wheels and brake dust 2x week.

I've heard others complain of how much brake dust these OEM pads create. Thus, I'm thinking of going to get some ceramic pads put on...

Anyone have any experiences with ceramic brake pads? Pros/ cons vs. the OEM ones?

    Recommendations?

    Thx!

might as well wait until the pads need to be replaced, before replacing them.

I have a similar issue with the pads that came on my car for the Cayenne brakes. They dust excessively. I'm going to echo Luunta though and say run them out before replacing them.

I went with HAWK HPS and they're significatly better in the dust department.

Ryan got me some trw oem+ pads for the front and rear. Dust has been reduced a ton.

I sell a lot of TRW pads. They make quite a low-dust pad, being that it's a non-ceramic material.

I have B7 S4 Brakes on my car and the OEM pads were TERRIBLE for dust. I would have to wash my wheels every 3 or 4 days just so it looked like i wasn't running 2 different sets of wheels.

I swapped them out for Hawk HPS and the dust is much better. I would recommend them for sure.

                    Wow - input is awesome!

What's the diff b/w the HAWK and the TRW pads (or is just that the HAWK are ceramic and the TRW are a mix of material)?

...why wouldn't audi make their vehicles with other brake pads...

I had trw's before, and now I have Hawk's. I can say that the Hawk's bite a lot harder when warmed up. Dramatic difference.

Re: Audi OEM brake pads / dust

As a rule, ceramic pads bite harder, make less dust, and wear better than organic/metallic pads. They also make a lot more noise.

TRW is an OEM-like replacement. Hawk is an aftermarket upgrade pad, just like PBR Ceramic, etc.

it depends on the hawk pad. you can get some now that make no noise at all when cold. they are more of the daily driver kind of pad, but still low dust and better bite.
as with any pad though you start getting more bite you're either going to get more dust or more noise, no way around it

and when we speak of noise, its just when cold. after 5min of normal driving the little squeak goes away

Some ceramic pads squeal much more than organic/metallic pads all the time, not just when cold.
