I picked up some degreaser in a purple bottle. Worked amazing, the name of it is slipping my mind right now though.

Worked AMAZING, sprayed it on, let it sit for a couple minutes, everything that i sprayed it with looked like a brand new part.

Super clean is awesome but wear gloves! I sometimes even have to wear a mask with that stuff but it does work awesome.

Its fine if you use it with water, but yeah, dont get it on your hands in normal concentration it will start to burn like a mother.

They had an add once that showed different concentrations with water and the equivalent competing product.

Got some initial degrease work done, ran out of spray product & decided to call 'er quits for the night.

Re: Power Steering Rack Replacement <pic heavy!>

Other than the battery box, I've cleaned as much as I care to at this point. Someday when I pull the rad and the accessories on the driver's side I'll get a better job done, but for now I need to focus on mechanical maintenance.

                  UPCOMING:
                  - head removal --> have a look inside, and sleep well at night
                  - timing belt --> do I need to degree cams (see ^^^) first w/ head removal? If yes, how so (factory marks or degree wheel)?

I would just line up everything on the factory marks and then pull it apart.

Re: Power Steering Rack Replacement <pic heavy!>

DON'T do what I did here; before you attach the lines at the back of the PS rack, install the steering dampener and bracket first. Save the gigantic PITA of redoing everything over again.

Now that I'm up to the point where the steering rack is completely reinstalled, all I have to do is the other stuff I'd intended to take care of, while I'm in there... then install the motor.

                      Those things include:
                      - Pull head and inspect for foreign objects (sand, gravel)
                      - Phenolic intake manifold spacer
                      - Timing belt & accessories swap
                      - Silicon rad hoses & cap off aux. rad outlet
                      - 034 street-density motor & trans mounts
                      - Strut top mounts
                      - Refill/flush fluids

STILL waiting on the replacement tabs I sourced for my headlights, so if they don't come in by the time I'm ready to rock and/or roll I'll fab up something temporary.
