    Flashing CEL on start up

    Hi all I started my car yesterday and I noticed it was idling a bit rough then the CEL flashed for a few seconds then turned off. It hasn't turned back on and car seems to be running fine. Does anybody know what could have caused it? and secondly should I bring it into the shop? Thanks

    It will have stored a code, so you just need to find someone with a VAG-COM (or buy a $20 eBay one yourself) to pull the code and see exactly what was going on.

    My guess is you have at least one coil pack about to die.

      my guess would be misfires on cold start. mine misfires on cold starts but does not throw a code. could be from shitty winter gas .

        When mine was doing that I was chasing a phantom underboost issue that turned out to be a dying fuel pump.

        First things first, pull the codes.

          ha! when its COLD out my s4 flashes the airbag light when i start it

            I would have the same thing happen when my head cracked. Coolant would seep into the cylinder after shutting it down and it would misfire under cold starts.

              Thanks for the replies guys. Anybody on here have a VAG-COM that could help me pull the codes?
              @ onceover I've got a 3.0.
              Also had all the coil packs replaced in the last couple years. There was a recall for them so I hope its not the coils again.
