  • Winter Tire Suggestions?

So my winter DD, Merc powered 3L diesel jeep, is going under the upgrade knife. At 275 hp, 510 torques. Going for 350hp and 650 torques( megasquirt, water meth + supporting cast.) So my S4 will have to be the winter DD. Looked at curretn winter shoes, my Stock 17' Avus with Nokians on them, and they are due for a change. I was thinking of converting my summer setup to winter duty (8.5 X 18 miros). I run 245/30s in the summer. Just wondering what other b5 s4 owners are running for their winter setup on an 18"? 225/40s? 235/40s? Brand?

your better off to run something a little narrower to better grip the road so 215/225 would be good. i had some pirelli high performance winters on my S4 a few years ago and they were awesome. Right now i am running the federal himalaya on my R32 and they are amazing. great price and the performance in snow and ice is great

Sotto Nero. Good tire, very little road noise. My wife's allraod has ice bears, which are no longer available
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

Just my experience - I've run winter tires for every season on about 10 different cars since 1995...

You're better off with cheap winter tires on steelies than expensive winter tires on stock 17's or 18's.

I've run both many times. I spent almost $1500 on winter tires once (for nice aftermarket wheels), I did not get better grip than I've gotten for $400 on canadian tire brand steelies.

unfortunately i have lots of nice aftermarket rims and will be getting a new summer setup so i want to use my current summer rims for winters.

I'd do some steel rims 16/17 whatever you can fit but if you must do 18 the maybe some 225/45R18

Ya there is no way there is no way 16/17 steels will go over my front and back BBKs. stock 17 avus only work with tape lead and giant spacers. I really am looking for tires to got with the 18x8.5s. Also a 225/45R18 is almost an inch taller that OEM so a no go there.

225/40/18 is within 0.5% of the stock 225/45/17 tire sizing. 829.3 Revs per mile vs 832.9 Revs per mile
