  • For those B5 S4's with CRAPPY EGT'S

Saw this on Quattroworld... A $45.00 fix (with shipping) is certainly nicer then $300 each or paying for reprogramming! (Which I think I paid $50 for EGT lockout)

I Currently have my EGTs coded out but will be recoding them once i modify a set of sensors. EGTs are kind of handy to have as a fail safe it is just to bad the factory ones are so flaky. I am bringing a 3 or 4 sets of these repair boards from Europe. I have a few pairs of dead Sensors that i will be repairing and testing. I am also going to see what i can fabricate to have the LED versions of the boards integrate somewhere in an OEM style into the dash/Vent/Heads up display etc. It would be nice to have functioning sensors as a fail safe and have a dual readout of the actual temperatures. It looks like the plain repair boards would be about $100 for a pair landed and the boards with the LED/Buzzer would be $210 for a pair. Let me know if anybody is interested.

Ha ha.. I was talking mileage.

If we lived in a warmer climate I would be more entitled to think that keeping the EGT's was necessary... Around here they really arent. Especially at $300 a pop.

The funny thing about a selection of aging things (people or cars) they do all eventually die . I even herd of a die hard s4 guy finally realizing these cars are a great part of history and need to remain there

Climate really has little to do with it. At operational temperatures under load of 1500-1600 degrees Fahrenheit ambient temperatures differences between a 70 degree day in Calgary vs a 95 Degree day in Vegas has little effect. On a stock un-tuned car it is really probable is not issue. But if you are trying to tune for the most power and reliability , you must monitor EGTs and tune your fueling/timing to prevent EGTs from getting too hot. For example, you may have tuned your car and have perfect AFRs, but you still run into detonation due to high .

I agree that $300 a pop for replacement OEMs is ridiculous. The great thing is our cars came with EGT sensors. Not drilling and welding in bungs and buying aftermarket sensors and gauges. I like the idea of having a factory fail safe as I screw around with tuning and hardware changes. There are lots times that this could save you from grenading hardware. That extra fuel dump in a lean situation makes a great factory fail safe for Water/Meth system failures.

I like the idea of fixing and having reliable EGTs/Factory Fail-safe for the same price as a code out or bypass. I will let the community know if these boards work. I will be trying boards with and without the LCDs. I seem to have a-lot of dead sensors kicking around
