  • Audi High Performance Diesels...

Quattro GmbH Managing Director Heinz Hollerweger has revealed some new details about the future Audi RS lineup.

Speaking to Car & Driver, Hollerweger said the company hasn't committed to building diesel-powered RS models despite the recent introduction of the RS5 TDI concept. However, he suggested high-performance diesel models could adopt a new moniker, to help separate them from traditional RS variants, if they are approved for production.

Hollerweger also hinted at the possibility of high-performance electric and electrically-assisted vehicles by saying "there’s no engine that has better torque at zero revs than an electric [motor]."

The executive also suggested the next-generation RS5 could continue to have a V8 engine. While he didn't exactly spell it out, he said "There will still be cars in the C- and D-segment with eight cylinders, and maybe also the B-segment - look at Mercedes, they have introduced the [new] C63 with an eight-cylinder.”
