  • Starter not Engaging in the mornings Cold Ish temps.

The past couple days, my car has been having troubles starting.

I hop in the car, turn the key to the on position, and the dash/lights/radio everything lights up fine(which makes me think the battery is ok) .... but when i try to turn the key to start the car nothing happens. The starter does not engage, no clicks no nothing.

It takes anywhere from 5 to 20 attempts of turning the key for the starter to engage and start the engine. When the starter does engage, it seems to start up with no issues. The car then starts up fine for the rest of the day. Im not really sure what is going on.

It makes me think that the car doesn't notice that the clutch pedal is pressed in? Or maybe ignition cylinder switch or something ? Has anyone heard of this issue before?

I had a cel pop up yesterday which i will have to check.

I am not familiar with B7's but could it possibly be a bad starter relay?

Im not sure where it would be located. But I'm wondering if it froze from when i had a late car wash on the weekend while it was cold.

You can monitor your clutch switch with VCDS. Give it a try in the morning and see if its activating

Ignition switch is where I'd put my money.

Take out the pedal switch put the two leads together and try that for a few days. If you notice the same thing I would say ignition switch. If it fixes it then you safety switch is gone.

Please remember if you remove safety switch you can start car in any gear!

Do the Audis have a load reduction relay? if so is the relay dropping the power out as it is supposed to? If not I would think ignition switch.

                        I couldnt tell you :/

It's so odd. Just went out for lunch and the car started up first try no problem. And its just about as cold as it was this morning.

Starter solenoid could be on its way out too

Does it happen every start or only after the car has been sitting for a while?
