  • A work in progress 83 rabbit.

Well i did a front end conversion on the car this weekend, got the parts from pick your part for a total of $114, im pretty pleased. Still needs some paint but im going to paint the whole car in the spring a close match the original color. As you can tell from the photos i didnt use the whole rad support as it would be easier not to and also the bottom part of mine was in better condition. Still have to shave the welds a abit and do some more work to blend them together. Also put a cheap little exhaust tip on until i do the full exhaust.
    Pics.

First-when i got the car...then into the conversion.

Also narrowed the bumper front bumper and suck it back a bit. same with the rear.

***Sorry for the couple huge photos!!!***

Future mods..drop it like its hot. Hopefully some 13" wheels probably 13X8 would be nice. And a 1.6TD rebuld with some goodies. And a bunch of interior changes.

Well it will be off the road for the next couple of months so i snapped some shots. Im not planning on driving it through the snow. Hopefully will get some work done on it over the course of these few months. Paint(once its warm again), coilovers, and wheels. Other engine is in build

hmm, what color you gonna paint it? you gonna do it yourself?

There is a guy selling some nice looking 13x6 mesh type wheel on clubveedub..pretty cheap too. Might want to look at those.

i saw those...if they are still sitting by the time my coilovers are on ill pick em up. if they are gone oh well. I want some 13X8's so i can get my stretch on!

I can't decide for paint was originally going to stay close to original but not sure now, and ill do it all myself.

hmm would be easier to keep it the somewhat the same color. I think some ats classics would look awesome on your car. Gonna try and get it all done for spring/summer?

Re: A work in progress 83 rabbit.

Well i bought a 1.6td to rebuild. Was planning on fully rebuilding engine, arp headstuds, metal headgasket, intercool, 3" exhaust turbo back, bigger injectors and some injector pump mods, run egt gauge so i dont melt it ha. Break in the engine and then finally run around 20-22psi of boost. But i do heavy diesel mechanics and go to school in march thus putting a damper on the build. Now im just going to throw the turbo on my stock na and run low boost like stock. Get my exhaust on, get a tach, boost gauge and egt. Do my rims, suspension and paint. I hope to have it looking good in the old engine turbo for this season. Engine i want it done right so im holding off probably next yr. Also the little 1.6td will be cat yellow just cause haha.

It won't be the fastest mk1, but i like the diesel and want to play with it so thats my plan. Im building the car how i'd like to so im stoked to see it pan out.

I really wanted the ats classics that mk4jetta was selling but just couldn't making it happen. im kicking myself.

the guy who is selling those 13x6 on cvd is the one who bought them.
just persuade him to sell them lol.

Re: A work in progress 83 rabbit.

Update: 1.6NA with TD set-up running stock boost.

So the car is now on coilovers. Still looking for some 13X8" wheels for the car. This past week i have taken off the intake and exhaust manifold, oil pan, oil filter flange. Then painted a couple little things for when i do the the actual 1.6TD swap once the engine is built(probably next fall). Then i cleaned up a wiring mess. Put in new battery cables. I had some issues since I dont think my TD came with all the hoses for the oil cooler, after checking my bentley i made some other lines up. Cleaned up the turbo, exhaust manifold, intake mani. oil filter flange. oil feed and return lines and pan. It started no issues. Had some fun making the intake. Its not perfect still have some bugs to work out. I still have my boost and egt gauge to install(egt probe is installed) Hunting for a tach right now then to tune the engine alittle better once i know how its running.

Here's a few pics and a video of how its running. Oh ya, in the midst of redoing the interior a little sneak peak of the seat.
