the welders actually have a feed hole in them to preheat the rod better and they have great temp conrol.... but they do still work like a soulder iron yessigpicComment

The ones I have seen are just a soldering iron with what is basically a light dimmer on them. Guess you don't need super fine temp control though. Have you ever tried PVC/ABS sludge (either mixed with acetone) to fill in small gaps?

I used a plastic welder once and it was killer, IMO nothing is going to be better than that if you take your time and are welding with the right kind of rod for the plastic you have.KR
