Great how you're jumping into it already.

The overspray could be from various things, like getting rid of rock chips?
A full interior shampoo will make a lot of the seat and carpet gunk come out, then you could use some carpet dye to make it black again.

Corrodo arrived! It's not as clean as I had hoped it would be, but it'll do If I'd spent much more money than I did I might be a little frustrated at the seller for not informing me about a few things. As it is, I'm mildly annoyed but it's nothing that's not within the budget to solve.

It drives really nicely - that's the main thing. It's been quite a long time since I got behind the wheel of something older. Although hindered by it's FWD, it's not like modern FWD cards that can often be lumbered by all of the additional weight. In the limited time I've spent behind the wheel it has not ceased to amaze me how well this thing turns in. And the sound.... I've always missed the VR from my R32 and this definitely makes up for it.

It's not a bad looker from 20feet...



...but when you get close, it's not so perfect. I was hoping it could make do with some paint correction and possibly so fresh paint on the front end. Unfortunately, even though it's supposedly had no accidents (and I can't find any traces of one either) it's had some significant paint work done at some point in it's 23 years. It's particularly noticeable because of some overspray on rubber mouldings and some of the hardware upfront. I won't be able to put up with that for long so I'll be making a decision this week on whether or not I want to invest in a complete respray, or part with the car.



In the meantime, I'm acting as though we're going to save this one. The worst feature of the car is undoubtably it's interior and I think I've got almost all the answers. The dash will need to come out and be dyed or wrapped and trim pieces cleaned up. I wouldn't say no to a complete replacement dash if a clean one was available locally. I've already got new seats, door cards and a parcel shelf. (anyone want some clean looking alpine 6x9's?) I had to pull the Passat seats that were in the car, immediately as they weren't bolted in. I tried to secure them until I figure out what I'm going to do with the car but they just weren't supposed to fit I guess. I swapped in the two front Recaros just so the car can be mobile while I figure it out. They really freshen it up...
I almost want to do a complete restoration just so I have an excuse to sit in these things. So 90's, so much love.



Previous owner told me there were no electrics for the seats. Fortunately, he was not correct. There's wiring for the heated seat elements in the car already. The motorized functions on the Recaros will require power and grounding - that'll be easy and I'm assuming I can just hook them straight up to the fuse box.



I'm not sure this car started out with a black interior! This was definitely a beige carpet that has been dyed black some time ago. Gross!







The sunroof shade is also beige, as are the electrical controls for opening it. I'm pretty sure I can probably source a new panel and I'm thinking I could wrap the headliner and shade in black/grey Alcantara. Seat belts are beautiful and seem to have all of their original luster (if seatbelts can have such thing)

I managed to get carpets out of a parts car today. One they were pressure washed and some cigarette burns repaired with spare fabric and duct tape, they look as good as new.



Decided to jump on this Personal/Nothelle steering wheel too as they are extremely rare and i didn't want to miss out. This bucket of bolts is going to come with some interesting parts if I decide not to keep it!

Checked out the 17" Type N's in Seattle. They'll need to be completely stripped and refinished but considering how difficult they are to find, I committed. It'll make a good winter project. The seller, Anton is a cool dude. He remembered seeing some of the Calgary car's at Leavenworth earlier this summer, particularly Dave's RS2.
I need to figure out how to get the wheels from Seattle to here within a reasonable amount of time. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
