Buy 18" even OEM I think its worthwhile. There is no loss in ride quality going to an 18" on a VW, plenty of tire left.

VW sells Golfs with 2 different 18" OEM wheels, the OZ Aristo and the BBS RC. Both are brand name wheels and very strong and light!
