            Why is a 2008 Porsche being worked on by a Shell station mechanic is the more important question!

                  in the states a mechanic is not regulated by the gvt. so if you find a decent mech you stick with him just because he is at a shel station means nothing there . the guy at porsche could be horrible .

                    Whenever looking for a new mechanic, make sure that he has a faster car then what you are bringing in for him to fix.

                      Exactly my thoughts. But considering this is an American story... I'm guessing the individual bought/leased a car that was way more than he/she could actually afford and as such, needed to save money by getting it serviced at the local Shell station.

                      For me, it's the same as buying a $100,000+ car and parking it on the street.
