I know i heard on the news not too long ago that a single family home was going for an avg. 1/2 mil now, but i dont know how accurate that info is
seems to me most people getting into the market now are going with 40 year mortgages too

As was mentioned, CREB is a good resource. The other great resource is "Calgary Economic Development", which provides a more macro level look at the market.
As for the "cost of a mortgage", I presume you mean the avg interest rates....
