I don't see how high oil prices will slow the recovery? Time and time again its been US housing that has held recovery back, all those stinky CDO's which crashed the economy and were liquidated for outrageous prices haven't really seen anything in the way of growth. It was after all the housing bubble that created the inflationary gap last time around. Try as they might, increasing the money supply hasn't made the difference that the monetarists believe it should.

The only thing that is going to affect the state of the US economy is investor confidence at this point and as long as the Fed keeps printing money and Congress keeps changing policy they are impeding the market forces IMO.

it would have to stay reg'd in the US, meaning you'd need a FLA license to be driving it.

i dont disagree on any of your points after the first.
how could high fuel prices HELP the global economies recover? all it does is increase an input cost. So everything becomes more expensive that doesn't need to be. This doesn't help anything at all and will slow growth.

ANd Chris, while i wont debate oilfield work is up over last year (2009 was possibly the slowest of the decade) its nowhere near where it was in 2007-08. When you have $3/gj AECO gas prices for most of the year, no ones gonna be drilling. Half of the goddamn wells are barely at break even.

I dont think so. Most of the leases will have a clause that it must be registered in the US, likely to protect people from not paying the lease and making repo a ***** across borders.

My friend moved back from Chicago and he had to return his leased Audi.

Sure...you can try it. But pray to god nothing happens to the car.
You wouldn't drive without insurance, which is also going to have to be under FLA jurisdiction and will be voided....why would you even risk this. For the few thousand you might be saving, you could potentially bankrupt yourself.

This just has bad news written ALL over it.

And if you think they dont investigate these things, insurance companies have entire divisions dedicated to things like this. If they dont have to pay out, they'll spend the money to not have to.
