i know they use the same tranny as my svt focus . and i love that transmission . with a short shifter, it's so friggin beautiful to shift . we had a few come out to our past trackdays at stratotech and they put on a good show . a very good track car from what i've experienced . i can't speak on reliability, but i'm sure they're good german engineering .

plus, i've never seen an ugly girl drive a mini

    Thanks for the input guys!

I will do a little more research. She's also looking at a 2006 2.5L Jetta aswell.

My pops bought a 2006 cooper s new. He has put alot of highway km's on it in three years. The only issue with the car was a component in the cooling system cracked on the highway dumping all the coolant. I'm not sure if it was the heater core, pump or just a hose, but the dealer told him it was very common. Other than that it has been completely trouble free. He hasn't had any six speed tranny problems to date.

    Both manual and auto?

Have you had many customers with such problems? Should I tell her to stay away?

    Thanks in advance

My friend has a 2005 Cooper S, and he told me that pre 2005 mini's had some problems. But since its a 2006, I guess all the problems from the earlier models would have been fixed

Windshields are a big problem. Apparently they are like Jeeps. The windshield is basically on a 90 degree angle and the sight of any rock well crack the windshield. The dealer is a bit of a pain to deal with but whats new.

My understanding is the R50 were pretty decent cars. I didn't do much research into it as we were looking at the new turbo R52's which were plagued with a cold weather issue that has been resolved.

I would recommend checking out these forums

Thing is a blast to drive though, thats for sure!

My mom is looking into buying a 2006 1.6L mini and I as wondering if anyone has heard any criticisms or problems with these cars.

    Are they good quality? Dependable?
