We are talking about LASERS here. It is infrared light. Nothing else. It can not interfere with anything. The jammers just have infrared LEDs to do the jamming. It hurts nothing.

Now RADAR jamming is another story as you are broadcasting radio waves on a restricted frequency.

I have used my Shifter ZR3, you have to turn it off once you have slowed down, there is a certian way to do it and, it tells you in the manual that this is the proper way to operate it. It isn't necessarily a case of the LIDAR gun haveing the ability to detect a jam, a LIDAR gun will occasionally fail to pick up the reflected laser beam. This can be caused by a car being to far away, cars with dark paint, cars with hidden headlights on no reflective surfaces, or direct sunlight, these are rare occurrences but it does happen. When I does happen the cop will attempt to hit you again if the gun fails twice in a row the cop is going to be suspicions and if you didn't turn it off at all and your 150 feet away and it still isn't working he will know almost for sure your jamming his gun.

Radar detectors are a passive system so I really don't think they should be illegal. As for laser jammers you have to send out an active signal to jam the radar gun which yes could interfere with lots of other systems but I don't think their area of jamming would be strong enough or wide enough to interfere with air bases systems. I also don't see them jamming cell phones as the jamming is a light based system and unless they modulate it at the same frequency as a cell signal there is going to be no interference.

Like I said. Please provide me with a link to the law.

I've heard they also can block out cell phones.

They are legal in Alberta and we all run them, regardless of what you have read in this thread. Laser Jammers and Radar Detectors fall under the same category, a radar jammer would be considered illegal. Laser Interceptor is the best...blinder and 9500ci are only a bit ok.

radar jammers are a whole other story. if you can find one (which is unlikely), you are interfering with military, aviation , and environmental departments. Radar jamming is much more severe of a penalty as far as I understand.

Also on the US side, I believe even in states where detectors are legal, they are NOT legal in commercial vehicles. I don't know if Canada has different laws for a commercial vehicle.

radar DETECTORS are legal in BC, AB and Sask. Everything east of there is illegal, and there are signs as you enter manitoba stating so.
Detectors are also legal in many US states.

JAMMERS on the other hand aren't legal in Canada whether it be radar or laser, and are few and far between in the US

it is when its purpose is to interfere with police duties.

I'm pretty sure BC regulates jammers. I haven't looked for the law but had asked an RCMP friend. I didn't think there was an issue here. Then again, radar detectors are perfectly legal in BC, and I think there has been at least 2 people on here with stories about getting ticketed for having one in BC. So who knows.... I swear they make up fines sometimes (or are ticketing for something else and are misleading and the recipient never notices what the ticket is actually for)

I call BS. Please find the law.

All they are doing is emitting light. Light is not regulated.

any form of laser jamming equipment is illegal.
its all about the police being able to prove you have one, hence why manufacturers came out with jammers that work for 5 seconds then turn off. The officer will get a standard error code (which happens) but when he refires, he will get your speed. The hope is that in the few seconds between being hit, hearing the beep, and him firing again, you have slowed down.

dont kid yourself though, they are illegal, and a cop will ticket you, and have you remove it from your car. my ex-boss was caught by the lacombe police on the #2 with one in his MB CLS. Not only did he get the speeding ticket, he got the illegal hardware ticket and was forced to remove it on the spot.

Get a Blinder. http://www.blinder.net/ Cheaper to get one out of the states than locally.

I was told at SEMA show that these were illegal in Canada but the company ships them as "computer parts" in order to get them through customs. They also told me that there is an indicator that lights up and beeps to tell you when the gun is being jammed and that you are best to slow down and turn the jammer off after that in order for the cop to get a speed reading.
