Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
Part of the problem is the Americans never got the CDI Smart, which might change things around. Have I mentioned I spend a about $30-35 a month in fuel costs, but I rarely take my car on Deerfoot or the highway as I realize that is not its intended purpose.
I think an issue I have with the list is putting vehicles on it that they don't understand the usage, while I think it should be for the worst designed, built, problematic car.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
I was surpised to see the Smart at the bottom of the list. I wondered what the criteria was that the car was judged against that made it so bad (reliability, build quality etc). But then again the north American market is very different. I suppose it depends on what you use it for.
Back home in London they are popular. Easy to park, nippy to get around and cheap to run. If you want a bit of space and storage Yaris, Peugot, Citron and Nissans are a good options. Birt I agree with Euro dub, it comes down to what you want and how you use it.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
No offense to CDN Turbo -- but I gotta agree with Khyron's Smart comments.
What I've always wondered is why -- when I'm on Deerfoot, or on the highway, it always seems someone in a Smart car passes me at 50 kmh over the speed limit -- probably getting worse mileage than my 350 hp mid size sedan?!?!?!? I just don't get it -- why buy a tiny city car and then drive it stupid fast on the highway?!?!?!?!?

You mean 6, 5 and 2?Originally posted by GroceryGetr View PostI notice that the Buick Rendezvous is missing from that list.... And for that matter, the Buick Allure, and the Buick Lacrosse. Hmmm, noticing a trend here. Actually where are the domestic sedans on the list. Who can honestly say that the Pontiac Grand anything is a good car. Yeesh!!
I loathed the Echo - as in, wanted to crash it into a tree. The Yaris was a big improvement.
And I kind of agree about the smart. If you're going to go THAT small, I'd expect super fuel economy (2x) or half the price of a normal sized car (like a Tata or something) neither of which the smart has. Other than being quirky and kinda unique there's no payoff for downsizing that much over a Corolla or Fit.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
It is a great car. its up to the owner to decide what uses the car is being purchased for. If you're buying a smart car so you can go fast or because you want a spacious ride, you're an idiot. In that case you might as well go out and buy a 6.3 AMG and expect it to have phenominal fuel efficiency

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
in those terms its a great carOriginally posted by Euro Dub PL View Postyeah definately an "american only" article. The smart car isnt a car made for luxury and lots or room. Its a car designed for efficiency and it does exactly what it was made to do.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
IMO Echo should not be on that list either. You could buy one for 12 grand new (about 4 grand less than other cars in its class at the time) and they were pretty good, the hatchbacks looked pretty good and were surprisingly roomy.
Sunfire though made me laugh since I mentioned it on that other thread about worst GM cars of all time. 98-200x Sunfire/Cavalier one of the worst cars ever built by anyone anywhere.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
That would mean my car is incredibly bad …
It's also pandering to how most Americans care not for anything unless it's large enough to be two of something. Two cars, two meals, two homes, two beds, two TV's …

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
it all depends on marking criteria, mine would be anything that gets less than 27 mpg city is a terrible car.

Re: Worst Cars of the 2000s
I saw this on the Vortex and have to say pretty harsh list and the Smart being the worst I definitely do not agree with, seems to really speak to America's dislike of small cars. Also quite surprised Ford managed to not have anything on that list at all.
