I don't fully understand how going HF affects it. I would not say that the hand being tied up holding the phone, is the issue. I would say using a large part of your focus on listening and thinking about the phone call is more detrimental than your hand not being on the wheel. And who uses both hands at 10-2 all the time anyway?
I'd say I can carry a conversation while driving pretty easily, but I find I am not paying attention as much as I should if I have my phone out. Just having a hand tied up steady is an issue, plus looing at caller ID, dialing, various unlocking and such. It's easy to say you'd drop the phone if you needed to, but I don't think that always works as planned. I guess that doesn't explain why, but I find myself distracted if I'm on the phone in the car, so I've pretty much stopped doing it altogether. I'll be looking to get a hands free setup asap.
