  • Painting recommendations

About a month ago, we bought a new (to us) house. We are looking to have the inside of the placed painted and have the popcorn ceiling removed and have it textured (drop down I think it's called). Does anyone have any recommendations for someone to do this?

    Thanks for your advise.

    Re: Painting recommendations

Recommend Ian at JRH Construction & Management.

    http://www.handycanadian.com/local/contractor/33061

He was just a one man show for our job. So comparatively it takes him a longer time to do the work. Few weeks where as other contractors said one week. He took longer than he said it would take him, too, by a few days.

But he does a good job. We asked him to use C2 paint from Walls Alive, he said no problem. To me this is good because some painters will use really bad paint so they can keep the difference in materials costs. He has his own paint, too, and it was name brand.

Walls came out AWESOME (IMO other paint doesn't compare to C2, even B. Moore, etc). House looks amazing. Price was right. After he finished, he came in on-budget.

He is a very nice guy. Just a regular down to earth dude. Chats with you, is very honest about everything. Had no issues about him coming and going from our place as he pleased.

Will do the little things to make it right, like patching the drywall or fixing the baseboards, door frames or trim. Detail oriented guy. No matter what we asked him to do, he said "no problem". There were some extra costs for the extra things we asked him to do along the way, but they were very reasonable (cheap even).

Only downside is, as I mentioned he worked pretty slowly. One coat a day, etc. You can say that Kris and Dana referred him, if you like. I'd hire him again, just 'cause I trust him.

drop down ceiling are the tiles you see in office buildings, schools, and some basements. I think your referring to "Knock Down" ceiling where it's similar to the "popcorn" look but is flattened down when its applied.

Thanks for the reccommendation Kris. I will give him a call.

Yes it's a knock down ceiling that we want. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
