I'm sure there is, but cheap labour + market saturation = low prices

take the cheap thailand production out of the picture and you have a shortage, price increase because of demand and only hard drives which are made in countries where labour costs are higher.

Then those companies that have the product have all the freedom to charge whatever they want. Someone is making bank. The demand has stayed the same, and now with less competition, giddy up.
