After doing a bit more research.. it appears the s3 has essentially tt225 underpinnings. If you google around a bit you'll find performance/maintenance parts for them, that are also labelled as fitting tt225s. If this is true for the most part, I definitely want to get one of these.

Bumping this back up wondering about parts compatibility. The s3 is essentially a tt225 not? Where could you get maintenance parts for them? None of the typical mail order sites have any parts for these. Something to think about is the tuning as well.. will it run properly on our fuels or will you have to get a chip tune with north american data, and is there anyone that can do custom flashes for these? I don't know any performance sites/companies in the uk, so if someone is knowledgeable on the subject i'd love to ask some more questions. If it isn't ridiculous to get performance/maintenance parts so that I don't have to pre-plan all of my maintenance and projects i'd love to pick one of these up.

I was thinking I in generalities, maybe someone would want such an engine for an upgrade, I was just using that as an example of possible things that could fit in extra crate space. The pd150 is available on the car, you can definitely pick up a 4motion with it.

this is true you can put anything in the container, if you do ro-ro you aren't allowed to store anything in the car

A crate might be more expensive but it can hold 2-4 cars so it comes out even with the cost of Roll on/Roll off. The difference is of course you can fill the remaining space in the container with other stuff, say a PD150 engine, some Euro parts that are hard to get here, etc... I figure by putting 2 cars in the container and adding some stuff, it can be a great opportunity to get lots of goodies at a cheap price.

So when 2015 comes around I'll be taking some deposits from those who are serious about it still.

container shipping is usually 150-200$ per foot if you get a shared container, from vancouver to europe. another example i can give you is door to door container, from europe to calgary is $4000 for a 20 foot full container.

cheapest method is a ro-ro, there is one that goes from bremerhaven to tacoma, will cost around 2k

all these prices don't include insurance or extra port fees

i shipped from tacoma to the uk via ro-ro, took 35 days haha it was worth it no more speed limits or photo radars to worry about on AB plates
